# Privacy Policy — Sakinah

Sakinah is a prayer companion app: prayer times, Qibla direction, a tasbeeh counter and the Islamic
calendar. This policy explains exactly what the app does with your information.

The short version: **Sakinah has no account, no server, and no analytics.** Everything the app
calculates, it calculates on your phone. The only company that receives any data is Google, through
the advertising and app-distribution services described below.

## What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only on your phone, in the app's own private storage. It is never
transmitted anywhere, and we cannot see it:

Uninstalling Sakinah deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.

## Your location, specifically

Sakinah asks for location permission because prayer times and the Qibla bearing are both
mathematically derived from your latitude and longitude. There is no way to calculate them without it.

What happens to that location:

- It is read on your device, used to calculate times and bearings on your device, and stored on your
  device.
- **It is never uploaded, never shared, and never sold.** There is no server in this app to send it
  to.
- It is not passed to the advertising SDK.
- The app requests it only while you are using the app. It does not track you in the background.
- You can decline the permission and enter a location manually instead. Everything except automatic
  location detection still works.

We are aware of the history here: a widely used prayer app was found in 2020 to have supplied user
location data into a chain that reached defence contractors. That is precisely the practice this
app's architecture is designed to make impossible — there is no collection endpoint to abuse.

## Advertising

Sakinah is free and shows one small banner advert, supplied by **Google AdMob**.

To serve those adverts, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and processes:

- Your device's **advertising identifier**
- Basic device and app information (device model, operating system version, app version, language,
  coarse country-level location inferred from your IP address)
- Whether an advert was shown, viewed or tapped

This is collected by Google, not by us — we never see it, and we receive only aggregate earnings
figures. Google's use of this data is governed by its own policies:

**Your advertising ID is yours to control.** On Android you can reset it or delete it entirely in
*Settings → Privacy → Ads*. Deleting it stops personalised advertising; the app keeps working.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app will ask for
your consent before showing personalised adverts, and you can change that choice later from within
the app.

There are **no full-screen adverts**, and no advert appears on the Qibla or Tasbeeh screens.

## Google Play

If you install Sakinah from Google Play, Google collects installation and crash information under its
own privacy policy. We can see aggregate, anonymous statistics in the Play Console — install counts,
crash reports, country totals — but never anything that identifies you.

## What Sakinah never does

- It has no user accounts and no sign-in.
- It has no analytics or crash-reporting SDK of its own.
- It does not read your contacts, messages, call history, photos, files, calendar, microphone or
  camera. It does not ask for those permissions.
- It does not use cookies or any web tracking.
- It does not sell or rent any information to anyone, for any purpose.

## Permissions the app requests, and why

## Children

Sakinah is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children specifically. It does not knowingly
collect information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect information at all.

## Your rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete on request
— there is no record of you to act on. To remove everything the app has stored, uninstall it. To
reset advertising identifiers, use your device's own advertising settings.

If you are covered by the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA or a similar law, your rights of access,
correction, deletion, portability and objection are unaffected by that; they simply have no data of
ours to apply to. Any request about the advertising identifier should go to Google, which is the
controller for that data.

## Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same address and the date at the
top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
